Description [EN]

The Burgmuseum is located in the former stables of Parsberg Castle. As a hilltop castle, it sits on a limestone spur in the city center of Parsberg in the district of Neumarkt in Upper Palatinate, Bavaria. The complex has a long construction history that dates back to the 13th century. The Burgmuseum presents the history of the region and geological developments on an area of about 1200 m². The regional cultural-historical life of the surrounding area is depicted through exhibits from crafts, textiles, sacred devotional objects, and regional art. An entire floor deals with the topic of National Socialism in the countryside. Unique original documents illuminate in their abundance the effects of the NS dictatorship on the region. The museum also offers individual children’s birthdays. With the first documented mention of the castle in 1205, the recorded history of the city of Parsberg also begins. Thus, Parsberg Castle is not only an extraordinary monument, but also a living testimony to Parsberg’s cultural-historical past, and this regional history is brought to life in the Burgmuseum located there.
