The Citadel of Lille is a historic fortress located in the city of Lille, France. It was constructed between 1667 and 1670 under the direction of the renowned French military architect Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban. The citadel is an outstanding example of 17th-century military architecture and is considered one of Vauban's masterpieces. It was built following the capture of Lille by the troops of Louis XIV to defend the city against potential attacks. The star-shaped fortress includes numerous bastions, barracks, and other military facilities.
