The Groeningemuseum in Bruges is one of Belgium's most important art museums and houses a remarkable collection of Flemish and Belgian artworks. The museum opened in 1930 and is named after the Groeningeplein on which it is located. It provides a comprehensive overview of six centuries of Flemish and Belgian painting, from the early Flemish Primitives to modern art. Highlights of the collection include works by Jan van Eyck, Hans Memling, Gerard David, and Hieronymus Bosch. The museum is also known for its collection of Flemish Expressionist paintings. In addition to its permanent exhibitions, the Groeningemuseum regularly organizes special exhibitions and cultural events that celebrate Belgium and Flanders' rich artistic heritage.
