Johnstown Castle is a magnificent Gothic castle in Wexford, Ireland, set amidst 50 hectares of picturesque landscape gardens and lakes. The origins of the castle date back to the 12th century when it was built by the Esmonde family, a Norman family. In the 17th century, the property was taken over by the Grogan family who owned and expanded the castle for over 300 years. In 1945, the castle and surrounding land were bequeathed to the Irish state by Maurice Victor Lakin and today serve as a public museum and research institute. Visitors can explore the impressive castle, the beautiful gardens, and the agricultural museum with a collection of over 10,000 agricultural artefacts.
