The Louvre-Lens Museum is an extension of the famous Louvre Museum in Paris and is located in Lens, a city in northern France. It was inaugurated on December 4, 2012, and is part of a larger project aimed at the cultural and economic revitalization of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region, which was significantly affected by the closure of coal mines. The museum covers an area of 28,000 square meters and was designed by Japanese architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa from the SANAA office. The exhibitions at the Louvre-Lens are organized thematically and chronologically, offering a comprehensive overview of art history from antiquity to modern times. The museum has quickly become an important cultural center, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
